On Saturday I finally made it to The Forge Kitchen in Ipswich for lunch. I’d been meaning to go for ages, as I really wanted to try its small plate concept.
The Forge Kitchen is very instagrammable. It has an industrial style that is sympathetic to the look of the building – I’m a big fan of the exposed lightbulbs, copper detailing and original machinery hanging from the ceiling.
When we arrived it wasn’t very busy, but I could imagine that during the evenings there would be a great buzz about the place as there are lots of tables, plus a comfy bar area and outdoor seats.
I liked the concept of the menu – you can either choose from small plates, called Forge Flavours, to share, or pick a main and add from a huge range of sides.
I was just looking for a light lunch so opted for crispy white bait from the Forge Flavours menu with some sweet potato fries. My bestie chose the burnt tomato and mozzarella on sourdough and some halloumi bites. We then added a bowl of watermelon and beetroot salad to share.
We were both pleased to see that there was a big range of veggie and vegan options. There were 7 veggie mains and the majority of the sides were vegetarian too.
Our food was lovely and afterwards we sat out on the terrace with some drinks to soak up the sunshine. If we keep having a lovely summer I’ll be back for cocktails on the terrace! And maybe to sample that veggie burger…
